Connect With Your Local Elected Officials

You don’t have to attend every meeting to have a voice. You just have to know who to call.

Most people in Stone County have no idea who represents them, when their representatives meet, or how to get a question in front of the right person. That’s not apathy. That’s a gap in accessible information. This page exists to close it.

The County: Stone County Board of Supervisors

The Board of Supervisors is the governing body of the county. They handle county roads, the annual budget, property tax rates, emergency management, and county-wide ordinances. If it happens outside the city limits of Wiggins, it likely falls under their jurisdiction.

They meet on the first and third Monday of each month at 9:00 AM in the Board Meeting Room at the County Courthouse, 323 East Cavers Avenue, Wiggins. Meetings are open to the public.

Want to speak at a meeting? Contact Racine Breland at rbreland@stonecountyms.gov no later than noon on the Wednesday before the Monday meeting. Any documents or exhibits must be submitted by the same deadline.

The City: Wiggins Board of Aldermen

The Board of Aldermen governs the City of Wiggins. They handle city streets, municipal utilities, city ordinances, the police department, fire department, parks, and city budget. If it’s inside Wiggins city limits, this is your board.

They meet on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at 5:00 PM at Wiggins City Hall, 117 North First Street.

Your Aldermen:

Mayor — Darrell Berry

Ward 1 — Brittany Harris

Ward 2 — Rachel Bonney

Ward 3 — Damian McKay

Ward 4 — Jeanette Jackson

Alderman At Large — Jared Harris

City Hall phone: 601-928-7221

Which body handles what?

This is the question most people get stuck on. Here’s the plain-language version:

Your road has a pothole — Is it inside Wiggins city limits? Board of Aldermen. Outside city limits? Board of Supervisors.

You want to speak about a zoning issue — City of Wiggins zoning: Board of Aldermen. County planning: Board of Supervisors.

You have a question about county taxes — Board of Supervisors, Tax Assessor and Collector.

You want to report a problem with city water — City Hall, 601-928-7221.

You want to attend a public meeting — Both boards are open to the public. No invitation required.

A note on showing up

Public comment periods exist for a reason. Elected officials are required to hear from the public, and they genuinely want to. You don’t need a lawyer. You don’t need to be an expert. You need to show up, state your name and address, and say what’s on your mind.

If something in a wigginsms.com recap raises a question or concern, this is where you take it next.

Questions about the CleanSpark bitcoin mining facility and its relationship to Wiggins city permitting and the Opportunity Zone discussion are being addressed in our coverage of the May 26 Board of Supervisors special meeting. An editor’s note with current information and a link to our forthcoming report has been added to that article.
